Suspect number one Ted Bundy, was arrested in Utah and brought to trial for attempted kidnapping of Carol DaRonch and she turned out to be a very unconvincing witness. When asked if she recognized him, she said she could recall the make and model of his car Volkswagen Beetle. Though she didn’t know his name until the detectives presented her with his mugshot. The defense pressed her on the inconsistency: it was strange, as her assailant had not cover his face and the two had been talking for quite sometime.
However, after watching various changes of Bundy’s photos over the years, one may comprehend and foreseen DaRonch’s confusion. What’s shocking is that Bundy was such a prolific changer of his physical appearance and body and so skilled at disguising himself with clothes and objects that the monster was able to prowl the world freely for so long. During the mid 1970 s, the serial killer was able to kill at least 30 women in different states, which left investigators puzzled for quite sometime.
Ted Bundy’s Earliest Disguises
Bundy’s different looks were not only in his facial and overall appearance. They were also in part a result of psychological planning. Even before he began killing, says a psychologist who later inspected him. Bundy showed characteristics of a sadistic misogynistic sociopath: inability to perceive individuals as human beings and sexual desire towards females with whom they would like to murder. Given that constellation of personality traits, he expected a false personality at a very early age, says Stephen Michaud, writer of Ted Bundy: Conversations with a Killer: The Bundy Project which consists of a book compiled by Michaud averagely spending more than 150 hours interviewing Bundy about his life.
In Michaud’s book, it is argued that Bundy put on that proverbial mask during his teenage years.
“When he hit puberty, moving from middle school to high school, he underwent this sudden implosion,” Michaud says to A&E True Crime. “It was 24/7 with him. Whatever chemistry … whatever was supposed to happen didn’t go right with Ted. From that time on, [he used] an assumed identity … when he first starts interacting with women, with girls. ”
To these adolescent years, says Michaud about Bundy “built a character… Happy and intelligent. Hello with a smile. A member of the four square team, serving God and Country. Ted Bundy, the Republican. ”
Ted Bundy’s Changing Eye Color
Beside Bundy’s propwork, he was also physically capable…often transforming sometimes in the middle of a conversation according to Michaud. In the Bundy interviews that the author had with the serial killer, it was fascinating to notice that the man’s face would metamorphose with the moods.
It began with him staring at me with very deep eyes.
“His real day to day eye color… He had those kinds of pretty blue eyes,” explains Michaud. “This is how it was, but when he really got going, his eyes got black. ”
Michaud is not quite sure why that is but they are willing to give a nod to the possibility that at least in some cases it might have been due to the pupils dilating at times of increased arousal.
Michaud’s also explains that when Bundy focused, his face would become temporarily black and blue – there were always black eyes.
“This has occurred three or four times,” he says. “A welt would start crossing his cheek—the right cheek, under his eye… it was so straight. It wasn’t like a scratch. It was white, or light-flesh colored—lighter than his flesh. And then, when he’d relax, it would fade. ”

Dressed inconspicuously, Bundy had ordinary looks. Short hair and a youthful appearance while murders were becoming his curiosity, and indeed an area of pleasure, by the time he had been photographed.

Bundy might have fooled and deceived many of the people who crossed his path. However the facade of the respectable bachelor was brought to the ground the moment he had to wear the prison gear.
“Normal” Bundy
It has been observe that Bundy try to be normal especially when he was in the company of other people. He was clean-shaven and shaped to embody the image of an Everyman; people saw him as charismatic and affable. Thus strengthening the front of the common man.
